Note that you will still feel sick to your stomach paying 70,000 points to avoid a $500 hotel bill at a crappy Hampton near a highway, even though the "cpp" is above 0.5 due to an event.
It's slightly less painful in a hotel that is actually "worth" the cash rate (instead of a hotel just charging a ridiculous room rate because they can). Europe and Asia are better places for that...
