Yes, it will be a useful feature but it is only as good as the process and training behind it. We all know AC is not consistent in this regard.
It also has the ability to create some anxiety as per my recent United experience. I had 2 bags (one special handling - golf clubs). The United App showed both received at my originating airport, but only one loaded. At my connection the one bag was received and then loaded onto the connection while the other showed still at my origin. I debated going to the United desk to check but didn't (I (hopefully) made an assumption that maybe the oversize item did not follow the normal scanning). Thankfully both bags arrived as expected at my destination. But I can see this feature creating some headaches for AC staff if the internal process is not adhered to.
