However, let's not forget - even though transferring CC points to airlines are not THAT common outside the US, I'm sure there is a significant part of the traveling audience who carry American Express in Europe (and Asia / Middle East), and as such - the availability (or lack of) transfer partners would then be a point of concern.
I am one of those Europeans who carries and uses Amex Plat. Low to mid five figures yearly spend, all private. Can't put work spending on it, but it would at best double it to mid five figures anyway.
I can get all of 750 FB miles for each 1000 spent, hardly worth the bother.
