Last year I accidentally left my cell phone on a NW flight from YYZ to MSP. It didn't occur to me until I returned to YYZ the following day. Two days later I was able to get a hold of someone at the NW baggage services department in MSP and they told me my cell phone had just turned up that day. The agent personally packed it in an envelope and brought it to the gate of the next flight here. I was very impressed with the service!

I would give it another day or two for it to turn up. Did the suit bag have his name/address on it? That would definitely make things easier.
