So when you have 4 segments, and you only get downgraded on 1 segment, the airline will calculate how much of the fare was actually just on that specific segment.

This way airlines can file really low basefares, lets say 100€ each way, have crazy high YQ, lets say 800€ both ways, and for a 2segment roundtrip, you'd only get 75% of 100€ = 75€ even though you paid more than 1000+€ for your ticket.
Although I read that some jurisprudence indicated that the proportion of the fare paid for the downgraded segment should be equivalent to the proportion of the overall distance. (Hope my sentence makes sense) so if the impacted segment covers 45% of the overall trip distance (l'ξle it's roughly the case for me on CDG-HKG) then the compensation should be equivalent to 75% of those 45% of the total fare paid. Or am I missing something ?
