As for *A lounges at LHR, indeed three of them are very good but when did you last board an A3 flight from a B gate. The fourth, catered by the same company as cater HM Prisons is awful, the No1 lounge A3 use at LGW is way better. The other thing about LGW is they get away on time much more often. Timekeeping at LHR has been chronic all summer and isn't getting much better now.
I've never had a problem with the LH lounge in LHR T2. OK, it's not the BEST lounge in the world but there are a LOT worse - try BHX or DUB! I generally take the overnight flight (only 2 or 3 times a year admittedly) and the LH lounge is 2 minutes from security, 2 minutes from the gates and quiet at that time with OK food (far from amazing) but some good bottled craft beer. If I have longer I enjoy a shower and a cocktail in the UA lounge and/or some great food with SQ. 10 minutes back to the gate? No worries after a few days in the bustle of London. Gatwick just feels so 'bucket-and-spade', or maybe I'm a snob who is 20 years out of date? I'll have to give it a try...
