As a too frequent traveller on the route, I agree with FD as above. In addition to price considerations and a personal preference for CX lounges over QR bling, I prefer the CX A350 over the long QR sector on the 777 for the better cabin atmosphere (on the other hand, the QR A380 to SYD is fine, even without Q Suites). The only route I actively avoid is the two night BA/QF etc via SIN - the short second overnight sector and early morning arrival just ruin my first day in Oz!
Another vote for Cathay's A350 over the 777. It is very noticeably quieter and makes a difference over that length of trip. I've done the LHR to Sydney trip 3 times in the last year on Cathay and once on Qatar. If the prices are similar I'd go with Cathay A350. If Qatar is significantly cheaper I would do that especially on the A380. All assuming you want to stick with One World. I noticed Air India had c£2250 to Sydney from Paris at least in March if price is the only consideration.
