I was impressed by Lao Airlines. VTE-LPQ and LPQ-CNX. Both ATR-72 flights were on time. The check-in was easy and the flight staff was friendly. They served small pre-packaged snack and drink both flights. Email customer service was good too as we had to refund one passenger on both flights and they were responsive and promptly did the cancellation-refunds. Both airports did have some free wifi now (which appears is somewhat new). Lao immigration seemed to be somewhat of a hassle. We did the e-visa and still had to fill out a paper form with personal and stay info. No problems getting into the country though beyond that. Departure was easy.
Luang Prabang was lovely and worth visiting. Vientiane was only worth visiting if you are already transiting the country or just have a day/overnight to visit.
In a country where nothing seems to go according to plan or follow any rules, Lao Airlines is a nice surprise. Competent staff and well run company. The airports and immigration are a totally different matter. I don't mind Vientiane, but LP is a gem. I encourage anyone to go before China tourism resumes. I don't have anything against Chinese tourists, but LP is best experienced without crowds.
