It's simply to cover their asses in case there's any issues. OP, any miles you earn from spend will almost alway post a few days after your statement cuts unless there's some very rare issue that pops up. I wouldn't worry about it.

See Posts 2 and 3. The OP is saying that his experience has been that miles are actually taking 8-10 weeks to post.
