If you're worried about getting credit quickly to use in rebooking (from your "wallet") it's generally pretty much instant as long as you're outside the initial 24-hour refund period. I've never understood why that takes a lot longer. I'll stop short of promising anything on behalf of AS IT but once outside the 24-hour period I've always had funds in my wallet instantly. Worst case I've had to log in/out and it shows up for rebooking.
I've usually cancelled and rebooked but on a upcoming flight I didn't want to lose my spot in the upgrade que in case of tie breaker. I called AS and they reimbursed to wallet.
