Like so many things with Alaska, consistency is non-existent. I've been downgraded because I was in row 4 and downgraded because I was lowly MVP. Now that 100K and never pick row 4, I'd be pretty upset to learn there was a different standard. Seems to me the downgrade policy should be the converse of the upgrade policy--status first, then time of purchase or fare class within the status grouping. That would keep those with GGU upgrades upfront.
