If the latter there's not a lot you can do as you haven't actually lost anything yet. You still have the travel insurance. You could try to contact the BA estore via the chat option and provide them with proof of eligibility (if you have it).
Personally I don't buy insurance based on getting Avios. I just go for the best value and most comprehensive insurance for my cash.
From the sounds of it, I'm stuffed! No, I didn't take a screenshot, but I do still have the original email when the purchase tracked (it says that the Avios will be awarded 90 to 120 days after the expiry of the insurance, i.e. June or July 2024). I haven't received them - nor would I expect to yet - but they now show as cancelled, so I won't be getting anything.
FWIW, I went with a comparison site in order to get the best insurance deal for my needs - I didn't pick the cheapest company on offer either. The Avios were the icing on the cake.
I know others report the eStore to be flaky, but it seems to be cookie problems or tracking links blocked by ad blocking software that causes that. Having them cancelled two thirds of the way through a 12-month insurance policy is a new one on me.
