One note: you can load with an amount less than JPY 1,000 - and also load an exact amount. For my last trip in the country on the Narita Express, I loaded just enough to cover the base fare with Suica (+ a paper ticket for the 'limited express seat reservation').
100%. At least if you have an iPhone. Was going to point out the note as well - the fast reload options in Apple appear to be based on most recent reload amounts (and may start at 500, 1000, and 2000). But you can top up with an exact amount (not sure if there's a minimum, but it's less than 500). I did exactly the above for the airport bus.
