I had a train wreck of a day Saturday trying to get to CDG due to multiple MX issues but I did end up speaking to a senior GS agent in a Polaris lounge for 10 minutes about the program. She said she’s heard the same complaints from a lot of GS she speaks to and she wishes it was “like it used to be” for both the agents and us. I asked her if she had any insight into 2024 and she said they are preparing for a significant increase in GS members. I told her that is not what I had hoped to hear, and she agreed with me that she didn’t either due to current staffing levels but the plan is to bring on new people and train them to be GS agents. This is obviously all hearsay and from a single front line employee, but if any of it is true, it bodes very poorly for the program next year and moving forward
I certainly hope not, but with more people willing to pay for (more expensive) F/J, the increase may just be reflecting the spending trend rather than intentionally increase the number of GS. (If UA sticks to the same $50K Flyertalk established criteria). I would not want UA lower the threshold for the sake of increasing the number.
