You are staying at Residence Inn which I have always thought was one step up from a Motel 6 so you should not expect to be treated as if you are staying at the Ritz. But a minimum level of service should be provided to all guests.
Residence Inn is absolutely not one step up from Motel 6. Marriott's TownePlace Suites is a lower-level residential/extended stay brand (and I think they are bringing yet another lower tier in this category), and Residence Inn is supposed to be somewhat upscale.
