Just completed a multi- night (paid) stay here (similar time on property than
jpdx ) and overall the IC Osaka remains one of our favorite city hotels and an overall top property within IHG / IC footprint.
Upgraded (by the book) from a Premier City View room to the 1 King Jr. Suite which we do like layout wise. It's only marginally bigger than the Premier room (57 vs. 50 sqm), but having some separation in the form of two rooms (bedroom / living room) worked quite well and the closet room / luggage storage area is a bit bigger too. Everything was still in very good condition and the overall quality of the design, materials and such is excellent (just look at the fire-resistant room doors that also keep noise out like a charm). As per the architect in the family, nothing here was done cheaply. While we don't think the property is showing much of its age (yet), opinions may vary on that.
An unexpected, but very nice (anniversary) welcome gift of a sizeable strawberry short cake and a bottle of Roederer (243) champagne in the room.
Chose breakfast as the logical Diamond amenity, but got the points as well a day later. Yes, 2 out of 4 mornings the breakfast venue at Noka was quite busy though the team managed well and no other place I have experienced is as quick to clear plates / tables. We had to wait 2-3 mins at best for a table. I guess the fact that Thu was a public holiday in Japan (Thanksgiving) had a lot to do with it as Japanese like to do staycations (heck this Sat-Sun the BFR was 140k JPY for a Classic room as per my conversation during check out).
Food and selection is certainly good, though one thing that bugs me is that I think the OJ is not fresh, but rather a good quality industrial product. The OJ at the IC Strings was much better and showed some separation (needed stirring before pouring, which is usually a sign of a fresh juice), not so the one here. I'd also like to see maybe a different / better yoghurt than Danone Activia (even if it is the Bio version). Pastries (croissants, pain au chocolat, etc.) are nice and flaky/ layered. Anyways, I nitpick.
Bath house (not an onsen, but still nice and relaxing), pool, gym all very good. Already planning to return for a week in Fall 2024.
