I've never opted for purchasing miles; instead, I consistently choose and pay the desired class of service for all my trips. Unfortunately, I've never amassed a sufficient amount of miles to redeem for a complimentary journey. Taking a preliminary glance at the prices for the summer of 2024, I must admit they seem exorbitant. The upcoming Tokyo trip might be the sole reason I'd consider using miles to offset the costs or potentially cover the entire trip with mileage redemption.

OP anticipates booking for the summer of
2025 which means he won't be looking to book awards for another 9-10 months. A lot can happen between now & then including AY & QR being fare based earnings and Partner awards going dynamic.
Without an immediate need, I wouldn't consider buying AA miles. Besides, there will be another Black Friday sale before anticipated travel.
