Take the daytime flight - it is a very civilised option. Fly during the day and then sleep at night. If you book the Sofitel at Terminal 5, then you will even be at the terminal for your departure to Athens the next day - if you stay at the Sofitel and you have time to go into London ( e.g. flight to Athens is in the evening ) won't even need to worry about lugging luggage to London if it isn't checked through
Counter point (even though I don't disagree), the extra time going into London that night can be more conducive to going to sleep when arriving at the hotel (although London does look quite pretty lit up at night, especially around the Eye and Big Ben), and a late checkout can time nicely with leaving the hotel then heading to Heathrow for an evening flight.
