If you are interested, there are plenty of websites and guides that can help you get started and teach you how to search, the sweet spots for redemptions, etc. Then after a few successful redemptions with points you've earned, then maybe you could consider buying points if its cheaper to do so and redeem vs. buying a cash fare outright.
I admit that I no longer travel as often as I used to. My current professional role with a national company mainly involves domestic travel for conferences etc. I've adopted a virtual attendance approach for most conferences, occasionally sending my staff, and attend in person only if absolutely necessary. On a personal level, my wanderlust has simmered down drastically. I now limit my journeys to one or two at most three trips annually. Having explored the countries on my bucket list extensively during my travel prime, I now opt for occasional and more deliberate travel experiences.
Given my infrequent excursions, I purchase the class of service I want from carriers that align with my service expectations and budget. Consequently, I've refrained from committing to a single airline, allowing flexibility in my choices. The accumulated miles on American Airlines have organically accrued over 12 years through work-related trips domestically. If memory serves, I have only flown AA once internationally in my decades of travel: from JFK to Madrid connecting to QR to Doha in 2019.
Now, as I seek to delve into the intricacies of redemptions and maximizing miles, I'm on the lookout for reliable resources. Despite attempting to follow discussions on various threads here, I often find myself bewildered by the complexity of the discussions. Could you recommend any website or forums where I can gain a better understanding of redemptions.
