Okinawa, an extremely busy domestic airport, has no restaurants past security. There’s a small Starbucks stand and a few shops, but they sell nothing more than onigiri and small snacks. The F lounge has slices of bread(?!?) and onigiri too. Filling enough for a little while but by the time I arrived in Tokyo I was desperately hangry in need of fat and protein.
It’s just a weird cultural difference. I don’t think there’s any LCC in Europe or the Americas that has so little service as airlines in Japan.
