Thank you for all the responses. I think I need to go back and reevaluate a few things. I learned a lot of things from above.
The most important thing I learned is that Priority Pass also has a restaurant option. My local airport has a nice restaurant that is covered by Priority Pass so I should be taking advantage of this a lot over the year.
The second important thing I learned is that I should look at my and my wife's credit cards together. I have two annual fee credit cards (Venture X and Altitude Reserve) and she has one (Bank of America Premium). Me and my wife have just been using Venture X for their unlimited access to the lounges and was not aware of the restaurant option. We would now be using the 8 passes on Altitude Reserve card for restaurants at the airports. Thank you!
I am assuming I can bring a guest with me to the restaurant every time using Altitude Reserve priority pass membership?
Now coming back to the remaining discussion:
- I am leaning towards Sapphire Reserve over Sapphire Preferred because I feel like I can get more use out of Sapphire Reserve. The SP, I don't think I would break even on the annual fee there.
- Since in my case, most of my rewards just keep sitting there, I feel like I would just redeem them for cash. That is why the Sapphire Reserve makes sense with 1.5c redemption rate. I already have 60k Ultimate points so that should be an extra $300 due to Sapphire Reserve, $300 travel credit, and 65k signup bonus. That should easily cover the first year's fees. I don't know if it would be worth it for the next year though.
- I usually don't use the hotels much even when I do, I end up staying at some local inn or camp, etc. Not really a fancy hotel person so never get to use those advantages.
- As for the Lyft, Uber, InstaCart, Walmart+, DoorDash, Digital streaming credit, etc. Me and my partner use none of these. We would have to make a use case just to use the advantages. I only see myself using maybe the InstaCart for once a month groceries and Walmart+ to use for things not on Amazon.
- I have been suggested to keep a freedom + chase sapphire reserve, and upgrade/downgrade the later one after the annual fee to double dip the $300 credit and get all the other benefits. I am not sure how this works but is that possible and suggested?
- Maybe next year, we would also close the BoA Premium card because I don't feel like we use it much and it has a $95 annual fee. Any suggestion on that or something we are missing there?
