I thought Black Friday was a U.S. phenomenon, the big shopping day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. I had no idea it had penetrated so much in the U.K. or Europe more generally.
It's a recent thing for the UK, within the last 10 years. Most Brits won't understand its provenance.
