If SEA was a hub, they absolutely could.
The point overall is that SEA is growing and adding tails. AA's shortcoming isn't the market not being able to bear such service, but AA's poor attempt at it.
I wanted to take that route several times, but the timings were awful IMO, with a 6pm arrival into LHR it doesn't leave much room for onward connections where I needed to go, so I ended up connecting elsewhere where I could get an earlier (around lunchtime) arrival into LHR.
