Crowne Plaza Tainan
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes. Stayed here a few times in 2020 and were treated quite well. Heard that service has deteriorated afterward as most people in Taiwan could not travel internationally. Glad to see service quality was returned.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 2 Queen Standard with cash, upgraded to 1 King Premium before check-in. The 1 King Premium is the top non-suite room and can sleep 4 as there is a tatami space with futons.
How are the rooms?
The room was quite large (69 sqm) but unlike the 2 Queen Standard River View I was usually upgraded to, the 1 King Premium does not have a balcony. It has a small dining area with a 4-person table. The tatami area also has a 4-person tea table, and they pre-arranged two futons on the tatami as we had three adults.
The bathroom was also quite spacious, with two sinks, a large shower + bathtub, and toilet in its own room with another sink (there are 4 sinks in the room!)
Many power outlets and USB sockets.
How is the exec. lounge?
No access.
What was good and what was bad?
The good:
- Very friendly and helpful staff
- Modern, clean room
- Meaningful upgrade
- Free shuttle (in the form of a BMW sedan) to and from high speed rail station
- The breakfast was quite good but definitely made us less capable of enjoying local food later that day. The curse of free breakfast strikes again
- Plenty of welcome amenities: breakfast, drink vouchers, and fruit/dessert plate (card says diamond only but received the same plate when I was platinum)
The bad:
- Booked with our corporate code. Hotel called a few days before check-in and reminded me that I must present ID at check-in. She sounded friendly but also clearly doubted how I was able to book the room so cheap (verbatim "I don't know how you were able to book such a rate, so make sure you bring all the relevant documents with you.")
- Window was not openable and room was a bit stuffy
- Free bike rental was unavailable most of the time
- Very limited choice of welcome drinks
The ugly:
- Wi-Fi is not encrypted and quite slow
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Paid ~$150 for the 2 Queen Standard, which was also available for 20K points + $50. Will certainly return if visiting Tainan again.
