Boeing promised that certification was closer to happen in Q4 2023, but so far no sign at all from the regulator. Apparently (this is rumours at this point) Boeing mixed data about the standard 777 with the tests from the 777X and the regulator found out, they required much more flying hours and tests as they have grown very suspicious. I do not think this aircraft will be approved before 2025 at the earliest (even the FAA said that Boeing's timeline was unrealistic and only driven by sales). I think the first deliveries are going to happen in 2027.
You can be sure that even if the 777X gets approved, there is no way I am flying in one.
Thanks for that, I'll take a read a bit later. If true, it looks like Boeing have learned nothing from the MAX fiasco and they deserve everything the FAA and any other certifying organisation throws at them.
Regarding never flying on a 777X, I vowed never to fly on a MAX until I had to in order to get home when FR did an equipment swap on the day of my flight and it was the only daily flight from GOA back to anywhere in the UK. So it was either fly on a MAX or spend the weekend in Genoa (or go to Milan to get back with BA). So, I bit the bullet and flew on a MAX and was pleasantly surprised.
I also really hope BA exercise some options on their A35K, particularly being European and a very high UK content......over 50% I recall with the wings, RR engines and numerous avionic items.
