Yes, QR use "luxury" buses for J passengers. On arrival this works very well. On departure you may end up waiting for a J bus while Y passengers are walking onto their buses (and leaving) - particularly near the end of boarding.
From and to some destinations (in my case Brussels) I've almost always had bus gates. My understanding is the probability of having a bus gate is much higher for smaller aircraft, e.g. B787.
I reckon about 90% of the time I've flown B787 we are on a bus. Always when on an A320 until the other day when flying to SAW. To my amazement, not only did we have a bridge, it was at gate A4! Of course the return last night was on a bus that took about 20 minutes, seamed to be going back on itself a few times and was stuck behind a couple of baggage trucks driving about 30kmh! __PRESENT
