I had this issue already and it is a nightmare. I couldn't get the name changed, so deleted the account and tried to reopen it ... Turns out they block the email from being reused and you will not be able to combine Avios as the emails will not match if you use a new one. Eventually found a workaround by having two emails associated with the account (one as the main email and one as a secondary contact email).
They eventually said I needed to complete the form here:

You must show them your passport associated with the account before doing any changes to the account.
