If you cancel fully refundable tickets you will get a refund and the point value at $0.01/pt. If you were just using points for “paid with points” this gives you the cash up front. Not a bad deal.

For example, if you used 100,000 points for a $1,000 refundable flight, after cancelling the flight you’ll end up with a $1,000 statement credit.
