According to FA on the plane via a friend who was on the flight, the BNE-SFO was diverted to HNL (8 hours ahead of departure already diverted) because a pilot was injured in BNE on layover. So couldn't fly that distance with only 3 pilots. Had to divert to HNL and get new pilot(s) arriving at 01:00 so then a 9 hour layover and a special ferry flight to SFO.

Quoting myself, they were emailed a compensation offer of US$625 or 32K Miles. Not sure if the whole plane had that offer, or if it's due to their being in paid Premium Economy (and then used miles and cash to UG to Polaris?)
