Award upgrade for mixed cabin booking
For my honeymoon next spring, I was able to make a mixed cabin award booking JFK-FRA (biz), FRA-SIN (suites), Stop 3 nights, SIN-BKK (biz). The first segment had to be biz as no first was available, and the last in biz as there is no first cabin. Definitely not a booking to try if you don’t have a lot of time to dedicate. Not one agent, both on the phone and via chat thought that to be possible. I have about 6 hours wrapped up in this so far. I talked with four on the phone and had five chat sessions. This line from the Singapore Airline award chart mostly meant nothing to them. Ultimately, it did ring true with one of them: “Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class are only available on selected Singapore Airlines flights. Business Class seats will be allocated to members who redeem their miles for Singapore Airlines Suites and/or First Class on Singapore Airlines flights which do not have a Singapore Airlines Suites/First Class cabin. The number of miles required for the entire trip may be determined at the redemption level of the highest class of service flown.”
The booking had to be made at the advantage level. I’ve essentially paid for an F ticket from JFK-BKK with a stopover in SIN at a cost of 243k miles/pax. I have an ask as to the best strategy to get us bumped up to first class on the JFK-FRA segment. As the 777 only has four F seats, they typically only release one for redemption, so for two they have to be waitlisted. SQ appears to release these about a month out for a two seat redemption without waitlisting. What option makes the most sense:
1) Wait for both tickets to open as a non waitlist
2) Move one of us up front and hope that the second opens later
3) Somehow waitlist with out moving that many miles into my accounts
4) Other ideas
