Moving "someone" isn't necessarily the same as moving a paying passenger out of a "chosen" seat.
Really anything could have happened in that situation from moving someone without status from a pre-allocated seat, to moving a member of staff, to upgrading someone else out of the aisle seat.
I am quite sure they were willing to say *whatever* to placate the upset Gold member on the telephone.
