Are your wallet funds from prior flight cancelations or from Gift Certificates?
I never really understood why Gift Certificates had limited utility in the T&C because they are cash equivalent and never expire. You can utilize GC without ever adding them to the wallet.
Internally, AS does differentiate between funds from flight cancellations and Gift Certificates. If you book an itinerary and use gift certificate value, either directly or via the wallet, and then cancel within 24 hours, the funds go back to the original form of payment. In this case, new GC value with no expiry date. After 24 hours, the funds would go to the wallet with an expiry date.
If AS is now allowing wallet funds to be applied to itineraries with AS codeshare flights, that is certainly a new development. Disallowing application to itineraries with AA flights keeps the funds internal to AS and eliminates the need to reconcile with AA.
