Why?
It makes sense to have a mixture of new and old (paid for) aircraft in the fleet. Older aircraft are great when utilization needs to be surged or the plane is spending a lot of time on the ground doing frequent stops. DL is the master of refreshing interiors of older aircraft. As the world's most profitable airline, having older aircraft is not a problem, especially as the newer A321s are having engine issues and being taken out of service.
