It will be torture unless you get an exit row seat. The exit row seats are narrower because of the flip up tray but at least you won't feel so hemmed-in. Never get the window ones because of the "hump"-like mechanism for the exit doors.

ANA advertises 34" pitch but I think this is a gross misrepresentation - it is more like 31". If you can fly UA on E+, do it. The 35" pitch is all the difference in the world and this being Y-product, ANA is no better than UA in terms of service. I've been flying UA to Europe a lot in the last weeks and I'm beginning to think service is not bad when you fly mainline. Sometimes I actually prefer their Y inflight service to ANA - their FAs think more. For example, I flew ANA in Y a month back and I was suffering from a bad cold. After some suffering, mid-flight I asked them for a mask but they flat out refused saying it's only for C passengers. I did get the mask in the end due to some "weight-throwing" but they could clearly see I was in some discomfort but to them rules are rules.

UA on the other hand were more than helpful bringing me a pre-flight club soda (also in Y) because I had a cut and stained my pants. Lots of towels. Lots of bandaids. Lots of attention for somebody who was in some discomfort irrespective of status.
