Would have been horrible since award ticket isn't protected and the hotels etc were non-refundable during holidays. FWIW CC protections won't cover that situation either since you didn't have a single ticket. So it went from cheap pre purchased ticket on AS to last minute expensive fare on Delta.
All of that because AS wouldnt release save short haul SFO-SEA award connection. I guess thats one way to "Care" haha.
Well, simple solution is NOT use AS award because they never release saver award on connection,
Since we never check bags unless not meeting the stingy intra EU flight allowance, we don’t worry about interline bags. For any international award we always arrive the departure gateway day before departure to minimize the possibility of unforeseen mess from happening, it is like an insurance policy that you pay the premium upfront but hope you don’t ever need it, However in the case you do need it, then you certainly would not complain about the additional cost. It is really a very basic concept when you look at other things in life, like having auto insurance, home insurance etc.
