I am wondering if TK will release more for a specific date and if so, how often? Also how far in advance did you book? We are looking for end of summer to fly and it's November now. I guess I will be doing what you did and check now and then. We don't mind the older jet (and not as private) so we thought less people would want to fly on that plane.
If you are looking for a US route, for summer travel, it's less likely that more award availability would open though as it's peak season and TK could fill those seats with paid passengers.
However, usually they open additional space ( including summer ) about a week before departure if the cabin is empty ( if a significant amount of seats are not sold )
The previous poster has found availability on LAX-IST-Europe in Thanksgiving period which is totally off season for transatlantic travel as well as March which is not a high season, which the availability pattern and revenue management logic is totally different compared to peak season.
