We just returned a car (Budget MCO) that had the 15.99 fuel charge added on.
The person helping us said the car had already been scanned in when we drove in. He made note of the full fuel level and told us to go to the Budget desk for help. The customer service rep removed the charge (didn’t even ask to see the gas receipt which I offered to show her).
We had the car for 2 days and only drove it for 65 miles. DH is looking at the erroneous receipt which reflects 14.5 gallons out and 14.5 gallons in and also Full, but it still put the erroneous fuel charge on the bill.
(We didn’t get a chance to ask what happened and the customer rep did not offer any explanation).
From Budget's Rental Terms and Conditions:
"15. Fuel Service Charge. Most rentals come with a full tank of fuel, but that is not always the case.
"Where available, if permitted by law, if you drive less than 75 miles, you acknowledge that we will add a flat fee to the rental, the amount of which will be disclosed on the Rental Contract and at the counter prior to rental. You may avoid this charge at time of return by providing a receipt for fuel purchased at which time the flat fee will be reversed from your total rental charges."
