AA does have the principle that if you used status to achieve certain benefits, you also have to accrue to that account. Now that is worded as the AAdvantage, so I am not sure how heavy handedly they enforce it for partner accounts.

For Alaska, I did have problems getting the system to recognise my JAL status, and I needed to call to pick seats in the OW preferred section, but they fixed that super quick. The comfort section is only for Alaska and AA elites, so you can't pick there.
