The UA flight is irrelevant. Business or coach on UA to MUC has no bearing. You can't select LH seats because it's an intra-Europe flight and LH doesn't offer advanced seat assignment on those flights. It's especially more difficult if MUC-SOF is booked as a UA codeshare and not the native LH flight number.
I have a UA ticket UA codeshare including FRA-xxx this weekend. I can't even see the seat map because LH think it's a UA flight and UA knows it's an LH flight. Thankfully it's 1.5 hours so I'll survive in whatever crappy seat they assign me.
Oh, and if you think *G status matter to LH seats, it doesn't. At least for auto assignment. Most times I'm auto assigned a middle seat in the back. Only if I can check-in through LH will I be able to snag a decent seat like an exit row. But since I'm starting on UA my check-in will be via them.
