The flight attendants' job isn't to convey meteorologically & aeronautically accurate information to the passengers; the flight attendants' job is to get the passengers to behave appropriately for current & upcoming meteorological & aeronautical conditions. That they craft their announcements to the passengers with the latter in mind, and not the former, is wholly appropriate.
