If the flight is kinda empty you can also try to buy two seats window/aisle and hope the middle seat doesn’t get filled.
Welcome to FT, jott341!
I second this. With 2x PE you'll have to have your son on one of your laps, whereas with 3x MCE you'll have the extra seat space for your son to sit/lie down. This whole point is negated if you are able to get a bassinet (I'm unsure of the procedure for acquiring one, but the child must be less than 2 years old (check) and under 20lbs).

Bassinets and changing tables

  • Changing tables are available in the lavatories of all wide-body aircraft.
  • Bassinets are available on a first come, first serve basis at the gate for travel only on 777-200, 777-300 and 787 aircraft.*
  • Bassinets are not available in First / Business cabins.
*Infants using bassinets must be younger than 2 years old and weigh no more than 20lbs (9kg)
