New CT scanners at LHR T5 - Project starts 5 Dec 2023

[I'm aware of existing threads on this topic, but this is a specific project for the full roll out of CT scanners in T5, work has started in T3 in a separate project].

I have some details of the roll out of CT scanners to LHR, which is mandated for all UK airports before June 2024. In the case of T5, the main project starts from 5 December.. The scanners have now arrived under HAL's control, and are going to be implemented in all areas of T5.

- 2 CT scanners in the First Wing
- 13 in South
- 13 in North
- 2 in T5B
- 1 in T5C (not sure why they are bothering, it's rarely open).

It's a huge project with demolition of Travelex shops, changes to lighting, removal and restoration of private search areas. It mainly happens overnight, in terms of removal of the existing ATix devices and replacement with the new CTix scanners. The process is complex and I've not seen exact dates, but in North they are starting from the middle outwards and in South from the northern end to the southern end. In main security there is an overall reduction in lanes by 1 or 3 lanes, depending on how you count them, the other areas remain at current strength.

Apart from Christmas it's usually a quiet period, but there may be some disruption while this all goes on.
