What a mess!
Yeah I did manage to poke around the wechat mini-app - it did actually manage to let me log in with my usual ALL username/password so my status/name does show up in there (after using a phone number). Availability seems the same on the Accor website/app, but in some cases even less than the regular website (Chengdu has only 2 properties bookable).
Pretty crazy how non-transparent this is. I only found out on a
post on LoyaltyLobby by chance that Golds get free breakfast in mainland China (for 1 person only), which is only explained
here and seemingly nowhere else. Although this is mentioned in the wechat mini-app fairly prominently when logged in (in Chinese only).
As i said this is the first time I've dipped my toes into hotel loyalty programs - seems I may be regretting it! I'm actually still gold but waiting for some nights to post to get platinum for a stay in China recently - sounds like I'll likely have to follow up and forgo benefits for some upcoming stays.
