Hotels are allowed to implement capacity controls on points redemptions for suites, but not for TSUs. In practice, if a standard suite is showing available to book with cash, you should be able to use a TSU to get it, but don't count on being able to redeem points for it.
I was more so annoyed that both HC and Thompson Madrid don't spell out which suites are standard. For these types of properties points availability usually clears it up for me.
