Completely agree. I'm always perplexed by people that click "Accept" to terms and conditions that tell them something is non-refundable but then they are shocked when something happens to them that they did not expect to happen, which then in turn triggers the terms and conditions they willingly agreed to.

For many years I've carried a high deductible on my homeowners insurance in order to save on premiums. Recently, we had a hailstorm and due to home appreciation and inflation, I'm basically going to have to replace my roof 100% out of pocket (i.e. my deductible is about the same as the repair costs). Surprisingly, it turns out my insurance company is unwilling to let me retroactively lower my deductible so that I can then have my roof replacement covered by insurance for the storm damage that I'd been betting wouldn't happen but which did in fact happen. I mean it hadn't happen for many years so I hoped/gambled/thought it wasn't likely to happen anytime soon, right? But... it did.
