On eligible itineraries, you will receive the standard STPC voucher at check-in which includes transit visa, hotel, transfers and meals. You take the voucher and go directly to immigration upon arrival in Addis. Then get the voucher stamped at Ethiopian Airlines transport desk immediately after exiting customs - they will direct you to the appropriate hotel shuttle.
So, I still be able to get out of the airport, get transport to a random hotel. Maybe walk around the area, and transfer back to airport for the next flight. That's not too bad I guess.
BTW, finished OLCL, next to my FFP (A3*G) it shows "SZGL". Wonder if it means anything (at least not SSSS
)
Also, unlike other OLCI I have done many times before with other airlines, ET OLCI doesn't let me print my BP, and it direct me to check in agent to pick up my BP... humm.
