Agree to disagree then. I think these responses are missing the point a bit. You can compare ringing the call bell to calling the hotel front desk. And I could compare it to King Charles ringing his bell at the Buckingham dinner table to have his plate cleared. I personally like walking in general and will take any opportunity to be on my feet on a long-haul so long as it doesn't appear to annoy anyone in my vicinity.
Some pax like to make conversation, and others like to bury themselves in a good book. Obviously we're all different. I'm just advocating for reminding that the FAs are not stewardesses, but staff well-trained to keep safety and order on board. And even they themselves, as people, are different.
The responses from people sound like they are very confident that a certain level of 'service' is committed to by an airline's flight crew. But where does it really say that on their website or on your ticket? Where in the pre-flight speech do they say "Don't hesitate to ring your call button for extra water!" ? Nowhere. It's a grey area that allows for the captain, purser, and flight crew at large discretion to decide how they want to run their flight. I wouldn't take it too personally (or feel like you didn't get value for your hard-earned money) if an FA didn't perform to your expectations. You're still getting to your destination safely, and faster than if you took a cruise ship.
