I'm in the "call buttons are for emergencies like I'm having air sickness and one paper bag won't do it" camp. FAs are human beings there to ensure safety on board. Remember that they're not called stewardesses anymore.
On AC, it's exceptionally rare I use the call button. I think I've been
told to use it (by the crew) after walking to the galley, more times than I've actually pushed it.
OAL F is another matter. I push those buttons. But I still definitely like getting up to stretch a bit.
And yeah, the conversation... sometimes it's pretty clear they just want you to go away, and that's fine. Other times I've spent more time standing in the galley than in my seat.
