Those reports refer to downgrading to the discontinued "Freedom with Ultimate Rewards" card, not to "Freedom Unlimited" or "Freedom Flex". Chase has used the Freedom brand on several generations of discontinued cards, and it is difficult to unambiguously differentiate those which were simply called Freedom at different times.
