I am surprised that NZ told you it was a cancellation. Normally the operating carrier would put you on the next available flight automatically instead of cancelling it. However, this could result in your new flight needing to be re-ticketed. It's a known issue across many airlines that the ticketing programmes do not always re-ticket your new flight in a timely manner once a change occurs. I suggest you grab the booking reference number for LX and enter that on LX's website to see if you can still see any "confirmed" flight. If yes, what you need to tell NZ is that they need to re-ticket it as the flight is not cancelled.
Confirming that when I enter in LX's reference number into LX's website, it says there is no flight in the booking

The flight time has changed just slightly, leaving around an hour earlier so I honestly cannot understand why LX just didn't move us to this new flight...
